Konstantine Vaxevaneris art
Mr. Vaxevaneris is also the creator of the logo for the American Committee’s Traveling Exhibition: “All Sides of the Parthenon.” He made the decision to use the horse from Chariot of the Moon Goddess, Selene, to represent and identify the cause for the return of the Parthenon Marbles is appropriately fitting. He chose this powerful image of the horse’s night-long labor as the embodiment of the struggle faced by Greece in its ongoing battle for the reunification of the marbles. The combination of classical imagery with abstract contemporary geometric forms incorporates the complexity of the debate. Hence the name “All Sides of the Parthenon.” In creating this design, Mr. Vaxevaneris decided to experiment in making a visual statement using old and new forms of art, while keeping his eye on how to engage the cause’s name to communicate “all sides” of the debate. The abstract geometric shapes of the horse or “puzzle pieces” says Konstantine, represent the conscious effort to resolve the dilemma with new era thinking, which is the goal of the cause and the American Committee. The intersecting white “rules” or bold lines represent paths and direction. The typography was also picked for its traditional classical chisel face to complement and balance the pictorial image for applications and functionality.
